HICKSVILLE, N.Y.-The stately, historic homes of Newport, R.I., built by some of the country's wealthiest industrialist families in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, are the inspiration behind a new collection from Kalaty Rug Corp. and the Preservation Society of Newport County. Launching at this week's Atlanta International Area Rug Market, the Newport Mansions collection includes eight handtufted rugs made of premium wool. The company shows in AmericasMart's Building 1, 4-G-14.

"We were given access to a treasure trove of design elements to draw from rugs, furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, ceiling designs and hundreds of other elements," said Mike Kalaty, company spokesperson. "Although our Newport Mansions rug designs are inspired by the decorative history of these glorious estates, we feel we have captured patterns, motifs and colors that are relevant to today's homes and lifestyles."
