Radiant Orchid Named Pantone's Color of the Year for 2014
December 5, 2013,
CARLSTADT, N.J.-Pantone picked a purple hue for its color of the year for 2014: Radiant Orchid (Pantone 18-3224).
An appealing, versatile shade, Radiant Orchid has wide applications for both fashion and home.
"While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today's society."
In interiors, Radiant Orchid complements olive and deeper hunter greens, as well as when combined with turquoise, teal and light yellows, Pantone said. It also can liven up neutrals, including gray, beige and taupe.
Pantone has released a color of the year since 2000. Among its licensing partners in the home category are J.C. Penney and Oriental Weavers.

Many expected 2016 would be a banner year, but the political and economic climate softened consumer confidence. It was also a year consumers spent more lavishly on home remodeling rather than decorating.
