TORONTO-Ron Boire, president and CEO of Sears Canada, will leave the retailer at the end of the summer “to pursue an opportunity in the United States,” according to a Sears Canada statement.

The statement said the Sears Canada board will begin a search for a new president and CEO. Brandon Stranzl, Sears Canada’s chairman, has been named executive chairman.

Boire was named acting president and CEO of Sears Canada last October, after Douglas Campbell announced that he had resigned from those posts. He was named permanent president and CEO in January.

Before coming to Sears Canada, Boire was executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of Sears Holdings. Prior to that, he was president and CEO of Brookstone. His career also included executive positions with Toys “R” Us, Best Buy and Sony Electronics.
