EPA Cites Home Depot as Energy Star Partner of the Year

Home DepotATLANTA-The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has named The Home Depot as a 2014 Energy Star Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence.

The agency cited the retailer "for its outstanding contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through promotion of energy-efficient products," according to a Home Depot statement. Home Depot has been an Energy Star partner of the EPA since 2001. The award recognizes Home Depot's efforts in increasing its Energy Star product assortment and its marketing and promotions, along with building consumer awareness and demand for Energy Star products.

The statement estimated that Home Depot helped its customers save $770 million in annual utility costs and reduced greenhouse emissions by 4.7 million metric tons in 2013. Ron Jarvis, the retailer's vice president of environmental, said, "Our partnership with Energy Star allows us to offer our customers high-quality, energy-efficient products that will also save them money on their energy bills."
