At last month's New York Home Fashions Market, AQ Textiles and Design Weave presented the first assortment of bedding under their license with lifestyle retailer Brookstone.

The retailer formed a license agreement with the two companies for the development of the Brookstone Sleep Smart bedding collection. The collection includes sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, comforters, pillow shams and blankets. They are all made with Intellatex technology, which permanently infuses a negative ionic field which bonds to the molecular structure of the cotton in the bedding.

"The three companies came together to create technology-based bedding of superior quality, building on Brookstone's innovative roots," said Douglas Colley, Brookstone's vice president and general manager of licensing.

Along with Intellatex, the products are made with advanced wicking moisture control, both of which provide dry and cool comfort with wrinkle resistance and anti-static qualities, Colley said.

The Brookstone Sleep Smart collection also includes a basic-bedding component, encompassing mattress pads, down and down-alternative bed pillows, comforters, bed toppers and blankets. The collection is expected to be available for purchase on brookstone.com and in other department stores and specialty stores. Price points will be announced at a later date.

"This inaugural collection is just the starting point for the Brookstone Sleep Smart line of products," Colley said. "We will continually work with AQ Textiles and Design Weave to introduce new tech-enabled bedding items."--David Gill

Many expected 2016 would be a banner year, but the political and economic climate softened consumer confidence. It was also a year consumers spent more lavishly on home remodeling rather than decorating.
