Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles Fair Opens
August 25, 2010,
SHANGHAI, China-Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles entered its second day here, with both business and the weather on the steamy side.
The show, considered the leading home textiles event in Asia, hosts more than 1,000 exhibitors from 24 nations, including a few U.S. companies, often represented by their Asian partners or distributors.
All of the major Chinese suppliers--names familiar to the American market such as Sunvim, Loftex and Goldsun--are exhibiting, often with lavish stands that recall the glory days of Frankfurt's Heimtextil when European home textiles suppliers dominated that event. That show's sponsor, Messe Frankfurt, is a co-sponsor of Intertextile, along with two Chinese trade organizations that represent manufacturers here.
The show, which expanded to 10 halls this year at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, also features several pavilions from participating countries, the largest of which is Turkey. There were also stands from Taiwan, Pakistan and other nations. Turkey said during the fair that its exports to China increased 44 percent in the first quarter of this year.
One U.S. exhibitor was West Point Home, which showed along with its joint-venture partner, Indus, as part of the Pakistani contingency.

Cautious Optimism, Mixed Results
Many expected 2016 would be a banner year, but the political and economic climate softened consumer confidence. It was also a year consumers spent more lavishly on home remodeling rather than decorating.
