NYIGF to Spotlight Craft at Summer Show
May 7, 2012,
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.-The summer New York International Gift Fair will put an extra emphasis on artisanal craft with a number of moves.
The show's Handmade Global Design division will relocate to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center's Level 4 Galleria, and will include 10 new exhibitors among its ranks of 135 resources. This section will also feature a new "neighborhood" of 20 exhibitors who are members of the Fair Trade Federation, an organization that supports vendors committed to fair-trade practices. According to a statement from GLM, NYIGF's owner and manager, these companies and their products have passed the association's vetting to ensure that they support artisans in developing countries.
Also, Melissa Chao of To Boldly Fold, a vendor of leather-bound journals, will receive the second annual Carol Sedestrom Ross "Maker-to-Market" scholarship. The award honors the memory of Ross, a GLM executive who was pivotal in developing the company's wholesale crafts markets, and who died in 2010.
