NEW YORK-Jana Yee, senior in the textile design department at the Academy of Art University, has been awarded the grand prize at designext, the international student design competition hosted by Surtex.

Yee was cited for "Vitality Blooms," her design concept which took the top honor over three other winners. The designext competition involved the creation of original surface designs for fabrics, wall coverings, floor coverings and accessories to be used in a residential interior in 2015. The other designext winners are Kenzi Klein, also a senior at the Academy of Art University; and Bess Brown and Katherine Creasy, both juniors in the fibers department of the Savannah College of Art and Design.

The judges for the competition were Caroline Baumann, associate director of Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum; Dorothy Cosonas, creative director of both Knoll Textiles and Knoll Luxe; Chuck Fischer, author and designer; Todd Oldham, fashion and interior designer and author; and Orli Ben-Dor, market editor for House Beautiful magazine, who assisted Newell Turner, recently named editor-in-chief of House Beautiful.
